SprintSprint CEO Dan Hesse took the stage yesterday at the NXTcomm08 conference in Las Vegas to share that Sprint's WiMAX network is on track to go live very soon. Baltimore will be the first market to be commercially available in September, with Washington D.C. and Chicago to also be covered before the end of 2008.

Sprint's WiMAX network was supposed to be commercially available earlier this year, but has experienced several hurdles, including changes in personnel and the joint venture with Clearwire, another company embracing WiMAX for 4G networks.

The new WiMAX network will offer lightning fast data speeds and extensive coverage, but is not limited to cell phones. Hesse outlined plans to also embed WiMAX chips in digital cameras, music players, even vehicle navigation systems.
