Intel strikes Xeon deal with Facebook

By Mamun 01 Aug 2008, 09:00 - 605 Views

Intel proudly announced that it has sold some Xeon processors to social notworking site Facebook.

Facebook is deploying "thousands" of Intel Xeon (5400) processor-based servers in its datacentre over the next year.

Intel said the social-networking site tested and benchmarked a number of server platforms before ultimately deciding on the Xeon 5400.

Kirk Skaugen, vice president and general manager of Intel's Server Platforms Group, explained that Xeon processors will undoubtedly “play a critical role in achieving infrastructure efficiency”.

He didn't say how much Facebook paid for the processors or whether Intel simply gave them away in order to secure a PR coup and get us to write this story.
